Summary

The Laser Specialist will be part of the R&D technical department for laser technology. The candidate will provide substantive guidance to (or participates in, coordinates and supervises) R&D activities,  bridging the gap between advanced research and practical product implementation, ensuring that all new developments meet the highest scientific and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate possesses deep scientific expertise and capability to produce technical documents and specifications.

Essential Duties

  • Advanced design of laser optical solutions with the ability to make use of dedicated optical software (e.g. Zemax).
  • Drafting complex technical documentation, detailed technical specifications, and system-level requirements. Translating high level feature specifications to process specifications for mechanical, software and electrical teams.
  • Gathering and transferring professional knowledge in assigned focus areas (laser and optics).
  • Managing and authoring documentation related to laser safety standards, ensuring all systems meet international regulatory requirements.

Essential Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in STEM disciplines (Physics, Optical Engineering, or Electronic Engineering with a focus on photonics). A solid theoretical and experimental foundation in laser physics is mandatory.
  • At least 3–5 years of hands-on experience in R&D environments. A proven track record in laser system design, beam diagnostics, or optical integration within the high-tech, photonics, or optoelectronics sectors is required.
  • Proficiency in English (B2/C1) for technical writing, international research collaboration, and reporting.
  • Willingness to travel (both within Italy and internationally) to engage with and support different Group locations and production sites.
  • Analytical mindset, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to advise cross-functional teams on complex laser-related challenges

Onsite / Hybrid

  • Employee works primarily in an office environment, within a well-ventilated area, and is exposed to moderate noise levels.
  • May be exposed and/or work with chemicals as listed in our MSDS book.

Work Requirements

  • Compliance with all relevant HID Global policies and procedures related to Quality, Security, Safety, Business Continuity, and Environmental systems.
  • Travel and fieldwork, including international travel may be required. Therefore, employee must possess, or be able to acquire a valid passport.
